about

This depressing little number was inspired by the apocalyptic imagery of fire-and-brimstone southern gospel music (The Louvin Brothers' 'Satan Is Real', Joe Val's 'Trials, Troubles, Tribulations'), the Roman empire, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Town Mountain, and that funny feeling that our world is falling apart.
Elliot and Jaxon wrote it in the summer of 2020 for Northern Lights Bluegrass Festival's online songwriting contest and won! They liked it enough that they kept workshopping it and ended up recording it in December of 2021.

lyrics

It all shut down today
People still have bills to pay
To improve their lot in life
Will make em end up like Lot's wife
Do you preach what you live?
Do you take or do you give?
The tree that bears no fruit
Will be cut down to the root

Only time will time will time will time will tell
But I wish you well
And Rome didn't burn in a day
But I've got days to kill
And a fiddle to play
And this dumpster fire
Will be my funeral pyre
'Cause this burning desire
Just won't go away

What I saw made me cry
When I looked through the needle's eye
I have not 20/20 vision
But I don't need your permission
To dance in the ash
My sorrows to mask
We'll bask in the flames together
A particular kind of nether

Only time will time will time will time will tell
But I wish you well
And Rome didn't burn in a day
But I've got days to kill
And a fiddle to play
And this dumpster fire
Will be my funeral pyre
'Cause this burning desire
Just won't go away
